Driver Killed Trying to Avoid Prior Crash
A motorist was killed early Thursday when he lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid an earlier crash on the Costa Mesa Freeway, authorities said.
The 59-year-old man from Orange was northbound at the Katella Avenue exit when he came across two cars that had crashed next to the carpool lane minutes before, said Denise Quesada of the California Highway Patrol.
He swerved, striking a Jetta, Quesada said. He was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from his 1994 Bronco, she said.
The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
