A sheriff’s squad car with its lights flashing and siren blasting broadsided another car in Stanton on Sunday.

Both drivers were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Deputy Pete Youngson was driving east on Katella Avenue about 5:20 p.m. in response to a report of a woman screaming.

At Beach Boulevard, his car struck a 2002 white Toyota Avalon, driven by Debra Neville, 46, of San Clemente, according to Lt. Greg Russell, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Both drivers were taken to Anaheim General Hospital, complaining of minor aches and pains, Russell said.

The squad car sustained major front-end damage, while the Toyota received moderate damage to the driver’s side, Russell said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, he said.
