Teacher Enters Not Guilty Plea in Youth’s Abduction
A San Bernardino teacher accused in the abduction of a student with whom she allegedly had a relationship pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Las Vegas and remains jailed on $280,000 bail, officials said.
Tanya Hadden entered the plea at her arraignment, when she was charged with 19 criminal counts, said Clark County Deputy Dist. Atty. Lisa Luzaich.
Hadden is charged with six counts of statutory sexual seduction, 12 counts of sexual conduct between a school employee and a pupil and one count of first-degree kidnapping.
Her trial is scheduled to begin July 22.
Hadden, 33, a former Cajon High School teacher, is also expected to face charges in San Bernardino County, officials have said.
Late last month, she and 15-year-old Richard Pena, one of her students, were discovered together in a Las Vegas hotel. They fled together after police began investigating whether Hadden had served alcohol to Pena and another student at a party, investigators say.
