How Rockers Chill in the Valley

Share

Just thinking about summer in the San Fernando Valley caused us to overheat. We rang up some rockers, a punk and a diva to find out how they keep their cool under that searing Valley sun. Sherman Oaks resident Dave King, the singer of the Irish punk band Flogging Molly, was the first to pick up. “Guess what I’m doing right this second? Suckin’ on a lolly. That’s how I stay cool.” A lolly, the Dublin-born musician informed us, is a Popsicle in Irish-speak. Favorite flavor: grape. Woodland Hills R&B; singer Truth Hurts, who’s currently heating up the charts with her Dr. Dre-produced single “Addictive,” says she heeds the call of the mall. “I go to Nordstrom in Woodland Hills and always like cooling down at Barney’s in Beverly Hills.” The smooth operator says she keeps a cup of ice handy and never turns on her AC. “It’s really bad for your voice and your health, so I surround myself with lots of fans” ... not the kind that want autographs. Jose Pasillas II, drummer for the rock band Incubus, cools his jets in Calabasas at the Santa Fe Cafe. “Eat a burrito from Santa Fe, with chicken, black beans, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and onions, and all of your worries will subside,” he says. “Even the heat won’t get to you.”
