Oklahoma Moves Into Top Spot

A shaky win by Miami against one of the worst teams in the country became a big loss Sunday -- the Hurricanes are out as No. 1.

Oklahoma replaced Miami as the top team in the Associated Press media poll, ending the Hurricanes’ record run of 21 consecutive polls at No. 1. Miami takes over the No. 2 spot formerly held by the Sooners.

Miami improved to 8-0 with its 42-17 win over Rutgers (1-8), but trailed by three points entering the fourth quarter. Oklahoma moved to 8-0 with a 27-11 win over Colorado (6-3), ranked No. 13 before the game.

Oklahoma moved ahead of defending national champion Miami by 14 points in balloting by the 74 sportswriters and broadcasters on the AP panel.

The Sooners received 42 first-place votes and 1,818 points, to Miami’s 32 first-place votes and 1,804 points.

Oklahoma picked up 28 first place-votes from a week ago -- 27 from Miami and one from Notre Dame, which fell to No. 9 from No. 4 after a 14-7 loss to Boston College.

Four teams remain unbeaten -- the top three of Oklahoma, Miami and Ohio State and No. 21 Bowling Green.

The defending national champion Hurricanes retained their No. 1 spot in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.

Wisconsin running back Anthony Davis was stabbed in the left thigh Sunday morning during a domestic dispute. Police were called to an apartment in Madison, Wis., after a report of a domestic disturbance. They found Davis with a deep puncture wound in the middle of his thigh. A 22-year-old woman was arrested on a tentative charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, police said.... Michigan State tailback Dawan Moss was dismissed from the team after being arrested Saturday night in East Lansing and accused of dragging a police officer with his car after a traffic stop. The 22-year-old Moss, one of the Spartans’ captains, was charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer -- a felony -- as well as misdemeanor drunken driving and having an open container of alcohol.... Timmy Chang passed for 365 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hawaii to a 40-31 victory over San Jose State on Saturday night in Honolulu. The Warriors (7-2) became the first team in the nation to clinch a bowl bid. With seven wins, they are guaranteed to play host to a team from Conference USA in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas.
