‘Novak, Hunt & Shields’ canceled

Last weekend was the last airing for CNN’s Saturday night public-affairs mainstay, “Novak, Hunt & Shields,” an interview program that has been on the network for 20 years, originally with Rowland Evans and Robert Novak as hosts.

The cancellation came as part of CNN’s plan to overhaul the weekend lineup, cutting back on replays of shows and beefing up its general news coverage. Among other changes to come: The weeknight “NewsNight With Aaron Brown” will add weekend editions, hosted by Anderson Cooper. The network also is exploring a weekend version of “American Morning.”

As for Novak, he will continue to co-host CNN’s “Crossfire”; Al Hunt and Mark Shields will continue to be seen on CNN’s “Capital Gang” and “Inside Politics.” Evans died last year.
