22 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Seized
From Times Staff Reports
Immigration and Naturalization Service agents Wednesday apprehended 22 people at Los Angeles International Airport believed to have entered the country illegally.
The immigrants, including three suspected smugglers and a minor, are expected to be returned to Mexico within a week.
The INS routinely conducts such operations to catch undocumented immigrants who buy “package deals” from smugglers to get them across the border and on a flight to a major U.S. city other than Los Angeles, usually for about $2,000.
