Student, Man Wounded in Shooting Near School
Shots fired from somewhere on the campus of a Carson elementary school Thursday wounded a 12-year-old boy and a man across the street and forced authorities to lock down the school for nearly two hours.
Sheriff’s deputies who responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to Ambler Avenue Elementary School found the boy, an Ambler student, and a 23-year-old man across the street with wounds to their upper torsos, said Det. Faye Bugarin. They had been standing near a driveway.
The shots “originated on school grounds,” she said.
Dozens of schoolchildren and employees who were on campus for an after-school event were corralled in an auditorium as deputies searched for the shooter, who was not found.
No one else was hurt and everyone was released by 7:30 p.m., Bugarin said. The shooting victims were hospitalized and reported in stable condition.
