Not isolated

IN his article about the Southwest Museum (“Southwest Museum loses deal,” Nov. 19), Christopher Reynolds refers to its “aged and isolated Mount Washington location.”

Isolated? Talk to a local realtor or the 120,000 people who live within five miles of the museum -- they don’t feel the location of the Southwest Museum is isolated.

Is the Getty, perched on its hilltop, isolated? Is the beautifully rehabilitated Watts Tower isolated? Is the Huntington Museum and Gardens isolated? All are single-place destinations, surrounded by residential neighborhoods.

But these institutions are supported by boards and leaders who know how to effectively run, promote and protect these cultural and historic institutions.

It’s not about location or age of the facility, it’s about lack of leadership.
