Don’t forget the pies and breads

La Brea Bakery will stay open until 11 a.m. this morning. Of course, it would be better if you’d ordered yesterday, but going there is worth a try in a pinch. Not only can you get all the cheese and olives you might need for your guests, you’ll find pumpkin bread, walnut cranberry boule, cranberry tea bread, mini-cornbread loaves and parkerhouse rolls. There may still be some desserts to choose from, such as pecan tart, sweet yam and pumpkin pie, individual apple rustic tarts or cranberry crisp. If you’re too late for them, get some slice-and-bake cookie dough, and serve the cookies hot with ice cream. (Pumpkin bread, $6.50; walnut-cranberry boule, $6.50; cranberry tea bread, $14; mini-cornbread loaves, six for $10; parkerhouse rolls, $5 a dozen; pecan tart, $38; Thanksgiving pie, $28; apple rustic tart, $4; cranberry crisp, $32; maple pecan cookie dough, $8; shortbread cookie dough, $5.)
