Laptop Computer Sparks False Alarm at Airport
From Times Staff Reports
A notebook computer in carry-on luggage apparently set off bomb-detection equipment at Long Beach Airport on Friday, prompting the evacuation of the terminal building for about 90 minutes and the delay of four flights.
The alarm sounded at about 5:15 p.m., and passengers were evacuated to a parking lot, officials said.
Airport officials said a check of luggage showed that the device was harmless.
Flights resumed at about 6:45 p.m.
