From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A sewage spill has forced closure of about 2,000 feet of San Clemente beach to swimming and surfing at least through the weekend.

The spill, caused by a broken sewer pipe in front of San Clemente High School in the 700 block of Avenida Pico, dumped about 240 gallons of raw sewage into the ocean, said Larry Honeybourne, program chief of the water quality section of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

The closure affects 1,000 feet of beach in each direction from the Pico drain near Avenida Pico.
