OK, who’s the wiseacre Trojan or Irish booster who sneaked onto the N.Y. Times computer server and hacked into it, anointing Notre Dame and USC No. 1 and No. 2 in its college football rankings? No offense to both programs, but it’s no longer the halcyon Heisman days for these schools. Is past glory the mitigating factor in the warped poll? If this were so, shouldn’t we rank Marshall and BYU No. 3 and No. 4 simply because they bucked the trends and were undefeated some years ago?
