September Traffic Down From 2000

U.S. airlines’ passenger traffic in September was 14% lower than for the same month two years ago as the aftermath of last year’s Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the slower U.S. economy kept a damper on business travel.

U.S. airlines said seat and flight capacity last month was 9% lower than in 2000 because carriers reduced flights after the attacks. AMR Corp.’s American Airlines said September traffic was 20% lower than in 2000, and UAL Corp.’s United Airlines said traffic last month was 15% lower than in 2000.
