Then There’s the Rest of College Football

After reviewing the rosters of the four “northern” Pac-10 schools and where a great deal of their football players hail from, I suggest that the regents rename these universities:

1. Cal State Corvallis

2. UC Eugene

3. Cal State Pullman

4. UC Seattle

This way, the writers from back east who dominate the polls won’t get the idea that these fine programs are “home grown.”

Chris Dufresne states that Virginia Tech has come by its ranking honestly [Oct. 10]. Well, that’s funny. Because if you look at who the Hokies have played, you’ll notice that not only have they not played a team in the top 25, they haven’t played a team that has played a team in the top 25. And they won’t play a team in the top 25 until the last game of the season. Most of the teams they play couldn’t win one game in the Pac-10.

They didn’t belong in the championship game then, and they don’t belong in the championship game now. A computer might not be able to figure that out. But a 12-year-old paying attention to detail could.
