The King still rules over album sales

Elvis Presley’s hits collection continues to top the nation’s album sales chart, this time easily withstanding a challenge from the veteran rock band Bon Jovi’s “Bounce.”

“Elvis: 30 #1 Hits” sold 205,000 copies last week to bring its three-week total to just over 1 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Bon Jovi’s album sold 160,000 copies in its first week in the stores to finish second on the sales list.

The Rolling Stones’ two-disc hits package, “Forty Licks,” sold 147,000 copies last week to rank third. Four other artists entered the Top 20 this week with new releases: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (No. 9), Keith Urban (No. 11), Chevelle (No. 14) and Jurassic 5 (No. 15). The remaining positions in the Top 10 were claimed, in order, by the Avril Lavigne, Nelly, the Dixie Chicks, Eminem, Xzibit and “American Idol: Greatest Moments.” Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” continues to be the the year’s biggest seller at 6.1 millon.

On the singles chart, “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson’s “Before Your Love” is No. 1 for the fourth week.
