Police continued their search Saturday for a man who abducted and raped a teenage girl on her way to school a day earlier in Panorama City.

“It is a very serious case,” Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jack Richter said. “On any given day, thousands of kids are on the streets at that hour. If this guy did this once, he’ll do it again.”

Investigators were attempting to put together a sketch of the rapist but said they had no suspects.

The 14-year-old girl was walking in the 9000 block of Willis Avenue between 6:30 and 7 a.m. when a stranger drove up and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at her, police said.

The man ordered the girl into his car and drove her to an alley about two blocks away, where he raped her, according to the police report. The girl told investigators he then allowed her to walk away.

She described the man as Asian, 20 to 23 years old, weighing 120 pounds with black hair and driving a white, two-door Honda.

Richter said investigators are giving extra scrutiny to the case because of the victim’s age and the man’s use of a gun or a simulated weapon to frighten the girl into getting into his car. Detectives from a special assault unit in the LAPD’s robbery-homicide bureau have been assigned to the case. Authorities said the girl was hospitalized.
