From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A spate of mail thefts in the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys has prompted U.S. Postal Service inspectors to warn that residents should report any suspicious activity around neighborhood mailboxes.

Mail thieves look for mail containing financial information, checks or credit cards. Thefts are most common in areas that have neighborhood delivery and curbside mailboxes, officials said.

Victims of mail theft may call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (626) 405-1200. Rewards of up to $10,000 are paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of mail thieves.
