Two Fillies Make U.S. Debut

Share

After saddling a pair of 2-year-old colts in the Pinjara on Thursday at Santa Anita, trainer Bobby Frankel is back with two 2-year-old fillies in the $50,000 Hidden Light at one mile on the grass.

Uncoupled in the betting because they have different owners, Chope Mockery and Gotdream both will be making their first start in this country.

Owned by Ed Gann, Chope Mockery is the 5-2 second choice on the morning line in the field of six. She won two of four overseas and will break from the rail under Laffit Pincay Jr. Gotdream, owned by Amerman Racing and also a French-bred, was one for two in her native land. She will be ridden by Corey Nakatani.

The favorite is Major Idea, who beat maidens in her turf debut at Del Mar on Sept. 4.

The other main contender is Mac Melody. Owned by a partnership and trained by Bob Hess Jr., she is back on the turf after being overmatched in the Del Mar Debutante. She won two of three on the lawn in Italy and England.
