Probationer in Animal Cruelty Case Gets 1 Year
Eight years after she was first convicted of animal cruelty for keeping severely malnourished horses, an Oak View woman has been ordered to spend a year in Ventura County Jail for violating her probation, authorities said Friday.
After her 1994 conviction, Renae Lynn Ferguson was placed on five years of probation and ordered not to own horses. In 1999, she was again convicted of animal cruelty and operating a horse market without a license in Los Angeles County, and sentenced to six months in jail.
Ventura County authorities issued a warrant for her arrest in 2000 because the 1999 conviction was a violation of her 1994 probation. She finally appeared in court on the case Thursday. Two years of delays occurred because Ferguson, 32, failed to appear in court several times and also was struck by a car and seriously injured earlier this year.
