A former Orange County prosecutor who allegedly forged a $150,000 government check pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony grand theft.

Sean Stafford, a former deputy district attorney who prosecuted narcotics cases, was ordered held on $250,000 bail. A bail reduction hearing was set for Sept. 13.

Stafford, 41, of Huntington Beach received a $15 rebate check from the state Department of Motor Vehicles and allegedly altered the check in April 2001 to make it read $150,015. The check was cashed at a Wells Fargo Bank.
