Bridgestone / Firestone Americas Holding Inc. recalled 19,700 tires in two separate actions, one because a piece of the tread may fall off and the other because of incorrect pressure markings.
The larger recall involves possible tread problems on 18,912 Firestone FR690 tires made over four days beginning April 12 in Wilson, N.C., said spokeswoman Christine Karbowiak. The second recall involves 754 Widetrack Baja A/T tires made over three weeks beginning Sept. 23 in LaVergne, Tenn.
The unit of Japan’s Bridge- stone Corp. recalled millions of Firestone Wilderness AT tires two years ago as the government investigated fatal crashes linked to tire-tread separations.
There have been no accidents or injuries related to tires in the latest recalls, Karbowiak said, adding that the recall is the first for the Widetrack Baja. The Firestone FR690s may have been used on Toyota Motor Corp.’s 2003 model Corolla S and LE compact cars built from mid-April through early September, she said. Those tires are size P195/65R15.
