Legal Fireworks Didn’t Kill Buena Park Boy
Re “Cut the Fuse on Fireworks,” editorials, Sept. 1:
To blame a child’s death from a gunshot on legal fireworks sales in Buena Park is foolish. It is even more ridiculous for The Times to use such a tragedy to once again complain about the availability of legal fireworks.
Thousands of people in Orange County bought and used state-approved fireworks this Fourth of July with no problems whatsoever.
Is it really the job of the government to remove something completely from the hands of the public just because a few people can’t behave themselves? I think most people would find that idea much more frightening than anything sold at a California fireworks stand.
