Mama’s, McDonald’s: It’s All Comfort Food

Share

Re “Italy’s Aging Bambini,” Sept. 14: I am 33 years old and I still live with my mother (Dad passed away recently), and no one in our family or our community thinks it is unsuitable. What should I do? Leave her alone at her age? Pay the rent for a house where I could live only in the evening? I do not believe that Americans can teach Italians how to live; our lifestyles are so different, and I believe that, in spite of your economic superiority, we live much better than you do. You cannot apply your mentality to others.

To give you an example, I and many Italians find simply ridiculous your being scandalized by your former President Clinton’s love affair with Monica Lewinsky. It is absolutely normal for a politician to have a lover. Who cares?

I do not want the Americans to change their minds, just to make them aware of our different points of view about many issues, starting with eating at McDonald’s and ending with living with our parents.
