The No. 1-seeded and Western Conference champion Galaxy will meet the No. 8-seeded Kansas City Wizards in the first round of the Major League Soccer playoffs, it was decided after Chicago’s 2-1 victory over Columbus Sunday afternoon eliminated the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.

Game 1 of the Galaxy’s first-team-to-five-points series against the Wizards will be Wednesday night at 7:30 at the Rose Bowl, with Game 2 on Saturday at 5 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time at Arrowhead Stadium. Game 3, if necessary, would be Oct. 2 at the Rose Bowl at 7:30 p.m.

In the MLS playoffs, teams are awarded three points for a victory and one point for a tie.

The Galaxy went 2-1-1 against Kansas City this season, outscoring the Wizards by a combined 7-6.

Also, X-rays taken of Galaxy midfielder Sasha Victorine’s neck were negative and he was diagnosed with a cervical strain after being injured in a midair collision in the 88th minute of the Galaxy’s 1-0 conference-clinching win at San Jose Saturday night. Victorine is listed as probable for the playoff opener.
