Davis Signs Bill to Block Export of River Water
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Gov. Gray Davis has signed a bill blocking the export of north coast river water via huge ocean-going plastic bags until a study is completed to gauge if fish would be harmed. The plan by Alaska Water Exports to tap the Gualala and Albion rivers and ship water south has attracted huge opposition in Sonoma and Mendocino counties.
“These two rivers are north coast jewels that deserve the protection,” Davis said in signing the bill, AB 858, by Assemblywoman Patricia Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa).
