Lonely Moon Sign Will Have Work Cut Out

Share

It’s hard to believe that the Donna McArthur-trained Lonely Moon Sign will go off as a longshot in the $345,500 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Assn.’s Breeders Futurity, but that’s how good the field is for tonight’s ninth race.

McArthur says the bay colt, who finished second in the May 18 Los Alamitos Kindergarten Futurity, has recovered from sore knees and shins and proved it by winning his Sept. 18 trial to tonight’s futurity.

But against other top horses such as Special Queen Sa and Azyoucansee, it won’t be an easy 350-yard run.

Special Queen Sa posted the best time in qualifying for the futurity. The filly has finished in the money in five of her six starts.

Azyoucansee finished second in the June 22 Governor’s Cup Futurity.

Also considered contenders are Dashnlitia, third in the Ed Burke, and Just Think, running in her third futurity.

The picks: 1. Lets Disco First, 2. Gilali, 3. Dreamer Beamer, 4. Murmuring Sea, 5. Hi Big Dreams, 6. Mighty Advance Man, 7. Biscotti, 8. Willie Good Time, 9. Special Queen Sa, 10. Blue Grass Bounce, 11. Takin My Lane.

Four: Stay late and take Scuba Steve and Willie Good Time in the eighth, Azyoucansee and Special Queen Sa in the ninth, Wcr Rubys Diamond and veteran Blue Grass Bounce in the 10th, and Indigodash and Takin My Lane in the 11th.

Shots in the dark: In a ho-hum race, Mighty Cheatum on the rail is worth a $2 gamble in the first. In the third, Dash With Illusions rates a look. In the seventh, Elegantely drops in class.
