Proposed Union Comes Up With Name

Hollywood’s actor unions may be getting a new name above the title.
The Alliance of International Media Artists is the recommended name for a proposed new umbrella union representing about 150,000 actors, broadcasters and recording artists.
The alliance would include three separate divisions -- the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the American Federation of Recording Artists.
The plan is an outgrowth of recent consolidation negotiations between SAG and AFTRA. The proposed name was recommended by a task force from the two unions.
Members are expected to vote on meshing the unions later this year, with a joint committee meeting this month to work out details.
