Man to Plead Guilty to Bribing Ex-Councilman
A businessman has agreed to plead guilty to paying nearly $5,000 in bribes to a former city councilman to win his support for a street extension, the U.S. attorney’s office said Friday.
The case against Gaylor W. Singletary, 78, of Riverside is the latest in a string of prosecutions growing out of an investigation into public corruption in Colton.
In court papers, Singletary admitted bribing Councilman James Grimsby to back a proposal to extend a street to property owned by Singletary. Grimsby pleaded guilty last year to bribery and money laundering unrelated to the Singletary case.
