Something up his sleeve

When Silverlake neo-new wave band Possum/Dixon broke up at the end of the 1990s, frontman Rob Zabrecky was already well on his way to becoming immersed in a different counterculture. On a tour stop with Possum/Dixon in Baltimore, Zabrecky learned a vanishing trick from a local magic shop, which eventually became part of the band’s live show. Now he’s a regular in L.A.’s magic scene, performing at the Magic Castle. On Friday, Zabrecky will be doing magic at Bricktops at the Parlor Club in Hollywood. Zabrecky’s shopping around a solo EP to indie labels. Eventually he hopes to bring the magic to his music and mix the two onstage.
