Lucky Lisa Marie

In reference to the Lisa Marie Presley article (“A Name for Herself,” April 6), there’s a saying in the military: “Rank has its privileges.” This especially goes for the entertainment industry and is no more blatantly seen than in the launching of Presley’s singing career. Here is a woman who has not worked her way through the ranks, so to speak, with several years of showcases and small clubs, or even the futile attempt to get an agent out of the office to see a performance or even listen to a tape. Then, here she is, at age 35, beginning a career. What a privilege. If you ask any agent if they’ll consider handling a 35-year-old at the beginning of a singing career, the response will be, “No! Too old!” Not too old for Elvis Presley’s daughter, though.

Finally, what is her music about? She’s lamenting the conditions under which she grew up -- in the shadow of her world-famous father, with a beautiful and marginally talented mother and in immense opulence. Will the album sell? Of course it will.
