LOOKING AHEAD / DODGERS

Share

Opponent: San Diego Padres.

Schedule: Tuesday, 7 p.m.; Wednesday, 7 p.m.; Thursday, 7 p.m.

Site: Dodger Stadium.

Matchup: The injury-plagued, talent-thin Padres might be headed toward a 100-loss season, but they’ve been great against the Dodgers, taking three of four in their first series. Although the season has only started, the Dodgers have a sense of urgency about playing well against the Padres, who revel in making things miserable for their richer Southland neighbors. The Padres on Friday purchased the contract of former Dodger reliever Matt Herges from triple-A Portland. The right-hander has been successful in setup roles.

Opponent: San Francisco Giants.

Schedule: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 5 p.m.

Site: Dodger Stadium.

Matchup: The defending National Leagues champions have thrived under new Manager Felipe Alou. The Giant bullpen has been impressive despite the loss of All-Star closer Robb Nen, who continues to rehabilitate a surgically repaired shoulder. The Giants have received many strong early performances. Tim Worrell has emerged as a capable replacement for Nen. Barry Bonds is off to another fast start, and he has been getting help from veterans Marquis Grissom and Andres Galarraga.
