The Transplant treatment

The Transplants have a lotta heart. The gangsta punk super-group, composed of singer Rob Aston, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and Blink-182’s Travis Barker, tore up the House of Blues in Anaheim in what amounted to a punk-rock sing-along. Combining the fire of N.W.A with the swagger of Rancid, the Transplants move fast and furious live, and anyone lucky enough to have scored tickets to their shows with the Foo Fighters tonight and Friday night at the Universal Amphitheatre are in for a sick ride (i.e. good time).

So old school it’s new again

And lemme just give a shout out to Downtown Disney. We decided to make an evening with the Transplants a family affair so we snagged a room at Disney’s Grand Californian, and what a treat. So old school it’s new again.... Run, don’t walk, to the Millicent Gallery in Santa Monica, which has an amazing exhibit of tattoo art, featuring the work of mad inkslinger Mr. Cartoon (whose clients include Eminem, 50 Cent and Blink-182) and the photojournalism of his Joker Brand Clothing partner Estevan Oriol. Now through May 7.

Dance club rundown

Don’t miss tonight’s Choreographer’s Ball at the Key Club, which features famed choreographers strutting their stuff. And we hear radio station KBIG plans to broadcast live from the club every Friday, with a new promotion called “Ladies Night.” .... Bad Brains frontman H.R. is a regular at Dub Club, the Echo in Echo Park’s happening hump day reggae club....The Dragonfly’s Sunday New Wave dance party, featuring hilarious ‘80s cover band the Spazmatics, is totally tubular. Whip it good yo!
