Man Accused of Trying to Rob Off-Duty Officer
From Times Staff Reports
A would-be robber picked the wrong man Friday, police said.
Ben Chavez was waiting at a red light when 21-year-old Cain Martinez of Oxnard pointed a gun at him and demanded money, police said.
Chavez, an off-duty police sergeant, pulled out his off-duty handgun and pointed it at Martinez, who dropped his gun and ran away, police said.
Officers found him under tree branches on a nearby roof.
