Andy Roddick defeated 2002 Wimbledon runner-up David Nalbandian, 6-1, 6-3, Sunday to win the Masters Canada at Montreal for his fourth title of the year.

It’s the first Tennis Masters Series championship for Roddick, who lost in last year’s final.

Roddick, seeded sixth, lost his serve only once and needed less than an hour to win the hard-court tuneup for the U.S. Open.

“It’s my biggest title so far,” Roddick said. “Hopefully, it will be a good steppingstone to the Open.”

The start of the match was delayed 1 hour 35 minutes by rain, and another shower stopped action for nearly an hour with Roddick ahead, 4-2, in the second set.

“Andy didn’t have to do many things today,” Nalbandian said. “I couldn’t play my game.”

The victory pushes Roddick to No. 4 in the rankings. He’s 24-2 since hiring Brad Gilbert as his coach after a first-round loss at the French Open.
