Charity Fills a Void
Re “Bishop Forces Out Beloved Nun,” Aug. 12: Many Saturdays in my childhood were spent volunteering at Sister Ursula’s soup kitchen, part of the Good News Center in Visalia. The average Saturday brought in families, laborers and those who were just hungry.
Sister Kenneth knew those people by name. She loved every last one of them and worked hard to ensure their every need was met.
It’s a shame that Bishop John Steinbock is exercising his authority in a way that will hurt the neediest. Sister Kenneth built the center from nothing and found the necessary funding, tools and volunteers to fill a void in one of California’s poorest counties.
