Young Pilot Whale Falls Prey to Bull Sharks
From Times Wire Reports
The youngest of five pilot whales released into the Atlantic last week after becoming stranded in shallow water was killed by bull sharks, officials in Miami said.
The calf, believed to be less than 1 year old, was released into the ocean Aug. 10 with four adult pilot whales. He separated from the group within 48 hours. Marine mammal experts tracking the calf saw two large bull sharks attack it Tuesday. The calf apparently never resurfaced.
