Police Probe Glendale Slaying

Detectives sought more clues on Tuesday into the slaying of a Glendale man during a daytime home-invasion robbery in a secluded, well-kept neighborhood in the Verdugo Hills.

Herair Jordan, 61, was found by his youngest son, Vahe, shortly before noon on Monday lying unconscious in his home of 23 years. He died on arrival at Verdugo Hills Hospital, authorities said.

Jordan’s car, a dark blue 1997 Mercedes E320, was taken, but found later that evening about half a mile away on Hermosa Avenue, police said.

“We are processing the heck out of that car,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Kirk Palmer. “But right now, we don’t have any real strong leads.”

Vahe Jordan, 28, said his parents’ home had been ransacked.

“I went in, saw how the house was, then saw that my dad’s car was gone and called 911,” said Jordan, who recently moved into his parents’ home after finishing law school at UC Davis. “After that, I walked to the back of the house and that’s where I saw his body laying down.”

The son said he attempted to administer CPR until paramedics arrived.

“I’m in a dazed state,” he said Tuesday. “This is a complete mystery. My father didn’t have an enemy in the world.”

Jordan said his father “was so excited, even more than me, that I was getting started as a lawyer.... My whole goal was to give something back to him because he had given me so much. Now I won’t get to do that. But, I have to be strong for my mom.”

Herair Jordan and his wife, Nora, who have another son named Micky, have owned and worked at Granada Health Foods in Granada Hills for 20 years.

“He was a perfect husband, a very sensitive man,” Nora Jordan said Tuesday at the store. “All the customers are crying. There is no way someone would want to kill him.”

She described her husband as religious, a good father and a caring man who would deliver vitamins to elderly customers without charge. “One minute you’re enjoying life and the next, it all changes,” she said.

The family’s neighbors were saddened by Jordan’s death and stunned by the crime in this quiet area of northeast Glendale.

“He was a very good, very quiet neighbor,” said Sonia Grigorian, who lives two doors from the Jordans.

“They’re the type of neighbors that will watch your house when you go out of town.”
