Mayor Appears in Court Over Ethics Charges

Mayor Dirk Helder appeared in Yuba County Superior Court on Monday to face charges that he took part in illegal real estate transactions.
It was the mayor’s first hearing on grand jury allegations of multiple violations of government ethics laws. Among other things, Helder is accused of obtaining and hiding financial interests in choice properties in the downtown redevelopment area.
Helder could be removed from office if convicted.
