From Staff and Wire Reports

The Orange County Water District has earmarked $20,000 toward ongoing mosquito research to help combat West Nile Virus.

To date, research at the Prado Wetlands Mosquito Ecology and Control Research Project has determined the periods when mosquito production increases and some of the factors that affect it. The research is conducted at the 365-acre constructed wetlands behind Prado Dam.

Since 1997, the district has helped fund mosquito research with the Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District and Cal State San Bernardino.
