A Hands-On Lesson About the Islamic Faith

Share

Re “Extra Credit for Ramadan Fast Draws Protest,” Nov. 27: World history teacher Len Cesene and the Royal Oak Intermediate School officials displayed an all-encompassing vision of our world by introducing an optional assignment (the fasting experience) to their students. Hands-on lessons are the best way for students to learn about life.

The real point of fasting is to promote self-control as well as empathy toward our fellow hungry men. Any act that promotes such invaluable lessons in life is good for all of us regardless of the source. I believe that your coverage of these types of events will create an opportunity for a timely and healthy discussion about the basis of our faiths and will result in a greater understanding.
