Two rookie Los Angeles police officers narrowly escaped gunfire Thursday in what commanders said was the 38th such attack on LAPD officers this year, representing a 29% jump in such assaults from last year.
The attack occurred in the Nickerson Gardens housing development in Watts about 5 a.m., near the corner of East 114th Street and Success Avenue.
The bullet hit the engine block of the officers’ car. The shooter wasn’t found despite an extensive search.
