Weight-Loss Product Marketers to Pay Fines

The Federal Trade Commission announced enforcement actions against four marketers of weight-loss products over claims that their products would cause substantial weight loss without effort.
Robert J. Michnal, owner of Universal Nutrition Corp. and MTM Marketing & Consulting Inc., and Harry Siskind, owner of Mark Nutritionals Inc., agreed to pay fines of $1 million each, the FTC said. The products targeted are ThermoSlim, marketed by Michnal’s companies, and Body Solutions Evening Weight Loss Formula, marketed by Mark Nutritionals.
The FTC obtained an order freezing the assets of Canadian marketers operating under names including Beauty Visions Worldwide, which sells the Hydro-Gel Slim Patch and Slenderstrip.
The companies could not be reached for comment.
