Man, 56, Dies of Flu; Two Teen Deaths Probed
San Diego County health officials said Friday that a 56-year-old man has died of the flu, and that the deaths of two teenagers are being investigated as possibly caused by the flu. The three cases are not related.
Dr. Nancy Bowen, the county’s public health officer, said the man, who had “underlying health problems,” is the first confirmed case of a local flu fatality this year.
Investigators also are attempting to determine whether the deaths of a 13-year-old girl in San Marcos and a 16-year-old boy in Chula Vista are linked to the flu. Both had complained of flu symptoms, and received medical care in Tijuana, officials said. Each died within days after returning home.
