Staffing for New Juvenile Hall a Financial Concern
Expansion of Juvenile Hall in north Santa Barbara County will add 90 new beds next year, but the Probation Department is concerned about paying for additional staff when the $11.2-million facility is completed.
The 70,000 square feet of additional space includes new sleeping areas, kitchenettes, classrooms, visiting areas and medical and counseling stations. The current 50-bed Juvenile Hall has 17,000 square feet.
The expanded facility is scheduled to open in November, but the county’s financial crisis has caused worries over paying the annual $1.4 million needed to staff it.
