Scott Mellanby wasn’t about to sit out a game because of a shoulder injury.

Mellanby scored two goals, and Keith Tkachuk had three assists to help the St. Louis Blues beat San Jose Sharks, 4-2, on Thursday night at St. Louis for their sixth consecutive victory.

“I feel fine,” Mellanby said. “I had some soreness. Getting it checked out was a real precautionary situation. Nothing is structurally wrong.”

The Blues are 7-0-1 in their last eight games. St. Louis has won four of those games by one goal, including three in overtime.

This was only the sixth time this season the Blues (20-6-2-1) have won by at least two goals.

“We hear the things people say, that we’re not scoring enough goals,” Mellanby said. “Bottom line is we’re one of the elite teams in the league.”

In their previous meeting this season, the Blues defeated San Jose, 4-3, in overtime. St. Louis has won its last five games against the Sharks and is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.
