‘Angel of Death’ Settles Claims With 4 Families

From prison, self-described “Angel of Death” Efren Saldivar has agreed to pay the families of four of his victims $20 million to settle their wrongful death claims against him.
Saldivar, a former respiratory therapist, is serving a life term in prison without parole for killing six older patients and attempting to kill another by injecting them with paralyzing drugs.
Saldivar worked at Glendale Adventist Medical Center at the time.
The hospital was dropped from the lawsuit because the families waited too long to file their legal claims.
Although he doesn’t have much money, Saldivar could some day reap profits from the sale of his life story, said attorney Chris Nicoll, who represents the families. If that happens, he will have to pay the judgment.
“We don’t want him to profit from his crimes,” Nicoll said.
According to the judgment, signed Thursday by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael S. Mink, the families will split the money evenly.
The settlement involves the estates of Salbi Asatryan, Myrtle Brower, Balbino Castro and Jean Coyle, who died last week.
