U.S. officials oppose a plan to put a new light-rail line behind Sacramento’s downtown federal building and courthouse.

Citing security concerns “in our post-Oklahoma City/post 9-11 world,” Chief Judge David Levi in a letter last week asked that the city’s expanded downtown transit center and the new rail lines be built “at an appreciable distance from the courthouse.”

Sacramento Regional Transit plans this spring to build a light-rail extension to the downtown Amtrak depot -- which is across the street from the federal building.

Regional transit officials said Monday they are reviewing their plans, but have not made any decisions.
