Turnovers Irk Gentry

NEW YORK — Andre Miller scored six points, had seven assists and five turnovers in 24 minutes Tuesday against the New York Knicks.
Let’s just say Coach Alvin Gentry wasn’t impressed with the Clipper point guard’s play. Speaking about the team’s 20 turnovers during a 105-92 loss to the Knicks, Gentry said:
“We’re going to start playing other people, that’s what we’ll do. Nobody is immune from not playing. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. We just continue to throw the ball around the basketball arena. It’s ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense, but we’ve been doing it the whole year.”
Miller had four turnovers in the first 5:44, including three on as many Clipper possessions.
Marko Jaric, Miller’s backup, also played 24 minutes Tuesday and scored 14 points with three assists and two turnovers. Keyon Dooling, the Clippers’ third point guard, did not play.
Last season’s league leader with an average of 10.9 assists, Miller is averaging only 7.1 this season to go with averages of 14.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 turnovers.

New York Coach Don Chaney on the Clippers: “They didn’t guard the dribble very well. I think that’s one of the reasons why they collapsed on defense so much. They’re just not a good team in terms of guarding the ball.”
