Schneider Denies He Wants Trade

Share

Mathieu Schneider denied a report in the National Post of Canada that quoted the veteran King defenseman as saying he was “open to a trade” and would welcome a return to the Toronto Maple Leafs, for whom he played in parts of three seasons in the late 1990s.

“If I was open to a trade, I would have been in asking for a trade,” Schneider said Tuesday after practice. “It’s part of the game, and I realize I’m one of the guys that potentially could be moved -- I’ve been moved before; it wouldn’t be the end of the world -- but this is where I want to be, this is where I want to play.

“No, I don’t want to be traded. That’s all.”

Schneider, who will turn 34 on June 12, is the Kings’ oldest player. He will make $3.5 million this season and is due to make $3.75 million next season in the last year of a three-year, $10.5-million deal.
